General overview of the role

Are you looking for an opportunity to work with a growing team of Artists, Animators and Designers for an exciting new project? Do you consider yourself an inspirational, passionate, and collaborative Artist who is able to deliver projects on-time while earning the trust and respect of a team of highly respected Game Developers?

Our team at Stoic, 4-time BAFTA nominated independent video game company, is seeking a Lead Concept Artist for the development of our next project. You will help us take the project from prototype phase through beta, launch, and live support over a 3+ year timeframe.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to work directly with our Art Lead and extended team of highly creative Designers, Artists and Engineers across Stoic. You will ensure that our project is delivered on-time and on-budget while maintaining a high-level of quality.


Work closely with the Art Director and Art Leadership to bring to life a stunning new world with exciting settings and creatures
Be a vision holder for how the game world comes together, especially in regards to character content
Will lead in-house Artists and external vendors concepting a wide variety of characters, wearables, weapons and creatures
Will work with Production and Art Director to understand the needs of the project and define concept priorities
Be proactive and an active contributor to ideas, meetings, and the project
Keep studio leads up to date on progress, slippage and risk
Be able to work independently and mentor other concept artists on the team‍


8-10+ years of experience working in a Studio Art capacity delivery high-quality Concept Art using tools such as Photoshop (similar / additional tools are a bonus)
Amazing painting skills with an expertise in characters
World-class mastery of human and animal anatomy both realistic and stylized
Strong eye for pose, proportion, color, perspective and composition
Ability to contribute to an established, unique Art style and take it to the next level
Experience and expertise in Console or PC AAA titles

Skills considered as a good plus

At least 1 shipped title in a Lead capacity
Familiarity with best-in-class Games as a Service (GaaS)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A proven track record of successfully shipping software on time
Knowledge of 3D software (Maya preferred) and Unreal Engine 4 – both are a bonus
