General overview of the project(s)
This a game about defining humanity's future on a new world after forced exodus from Earth. This comes in the wake of man-made environmental cataclysm born from humanity's failure to create a sustainable and just society on our home world.
The project is a turn-based, 4X strategy game with twists on the traditional 4X formula, including incorporation of city-building gameplay. The game narrative and mechanics are the foundation for highly progressive themes, such as social and economic justice (particularly with regard to race, class, gender, and political agency), environmentalism, and challenging the colonization narrative common in the genre.
The studio seeks an individual with game studio experience in project management, human resources management, or related roles to become the new Project Manager. The PM's primary responsibilities are to manage and support the team, organize sprints and milestones, and coordinate workflow.
In this role it is critical to have knowledge about the many ways in which axes of oppression function in US society, including treating people from diverse backgrounds with awareness and respect. This is important both in interacting with the team and in interfacing with the game's content and structure.
This is a half-time (average of 20 hours per week), remote-work contract position (potential for additional hours as the project progresses). Most hours flexible, but availability in US Pacific time (PST) is a must for synchronous meetings. Pay range is $30-$50/hour; hourly rate will be commensurate with experience.
Understand the identities, needs, and concerns of all team members to foster cooperation and maintain a clear sense of ownership in their work
Promote and ensure effective communication between team members, taking into account the power dynamics that can exist between individuals of different identities
Act as a bridge between management and team members
Collaborate with team members to develop production schedules, including sprints and milestones
Manage tasks in task management platform, Clubhouse, including coordinating with team members in breaking down tasks, tracking dependencies, and ensuring the system stays up to date
Anticipate workflow problems and offer proactive solutions
Identify and mitigate feature-related problems, and assist with management of scope and identify feature creep
Schedule, document, and facilitate team meetings
Organize and cross-reference company documents and coordinate with team members to ensure they stay up to date
Assist with hiring process for new team members
A thorough understanding of the game development process, from planning to post-release, with familiarity with the agile development methodology and related software
An understanding of each role in a game development team to effectively evaluate performance and accurately plan sprints and milestones
At least 1 year of work experience in a management or producer role in a game development team, with at least 1 shipped title
Well-developed knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to work equitably with those of different backgrounds, contexts, beliefs, and identities
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Emotional intelligence, diligence, and attention to detail
Proficiency in providing proactive constructive feedback in order to support team development and keep the project on track
Broad knowledge of the gaming industry
Skills considered as a good plus
Development experience as a discipline specific contributor (artist, designer, programmer, QA tester, etc.), to help understand the team's performance and workflow
Familiarity with (and appreciation of) many games in this genre
Experience with Slack, Unreal Engine, Clubhouse, Notion, and/or Perforce
Experience integrating and releasing games on Steam and/or the Epic Game Store
